Santa Claus Village and Keep Lapland Tidy Association start cooperation!

Santa Claus Village, one of Finland’s leading tourist destinations, and the local Keep Lapland Tidy Association (Pidä Lappi Siistinä ry) have signed a cooperation agreement. The aim of the cooperation is to promote recycling among tourists and local tourism businesses, as well as to enhance the circular economy in the Santa Claus Village area and the surrounding countryside. Additionally, the goal is to ensure a pleasant and clean Arctic environment for travellers and locals.

Keep Lapland Tidy Association, founded in 1987, is a non-profit, independent environmental organization. Its mission is to maintain Lapland’s clean and pleasant environment. This goal is pursued through communication, environmental education, training, waste management development, various environmental projects, and volunteer work.

The Cooperative of Santa Claus Village includes over 60 member companies operating in the Arctic Circle area and the surrounding rural area of Rovaniemi. “The cooperation with Keep Lapland Tidy Association aims primarily to share useful information with tourists and the cooperative’s member companies, as well as to improve the companies’ expertise in the field of circular economy,” states the cooperative’s managing director, Antti Nikander. The cooperative also aims to implement concrete and educational measures in collaboration with the association: one example of concrete action was Keep Lapland Tidy Association’s participation with a recycling advisory info point at the Santa Claus Village summer season opening on June 15-16, 2024.
